Councillor for Banana Shire

Judy Pender who cares for our community, Judy grew up on a dairy farm at Argoon. The eldest of nine, married and mother of three and grandmother of five, I attended primary school at Jambin, Biloela High School, lived and worked for 50 years, overcoming many obstacles. I finishing school at year 10, in 1969 girls’ education was not that important you would get married and kids, but I was to start a journey of learning with anything I wanted to do I would learn how to do it and try I do it well.

I started working in a local newsagency at 15 and went on to live in Brisbane for couple of years where I learnt hospitality working in hotels which I continued for 25years, went on to own and managing my own business for 10 years, also worked in high pressure management positions for big companies. Then in 2020 I decided to run for the Banana Shire Council elections, which I became a division 2 Councillor and served the last four year.

I have been community volunteer since I was quite young helping St Christopher’s Church Jambin cater for weddings, I volunteered for many organising through my life including being treasurer for the Housing tax strike 1980’s, we were living in Dysart at the time. I was the first female Rotary President for the Biloela Club.

I am passionate about Mental Health, Dementia Awareness, Domestic Abuse & Child Safety.
