First Nations acknowledgement

WOW Australia acknowledges Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the sovereign First Nations of the Australian continent and its adjacent islands, including those traditional owners of the land on which our offices are based, the Jagera and Turrbal peoples of Meanjin known as Brisbane.

In welcoming women and girls from across Australia and the world to our events, we extend understanding of the unique place and contributions of First Nation women and girls to contemporary life, and create a celebration which honours differences and builds connections through shared experiences.

Of One Mind, the company that produces WOW Australia, was extremely humbled to receive a Highly Commended at the 2021 Queensland Reconciliation Awards, in the Community category. These Awards recognise initiatives undertaken by businesses, community organisations and groups, educational institutions and government going above and beyond their core business to foster reconciliation and pave the way for a better future for our state.

Our congratulations to all the nominees and award winners, with an especial mention of our category winner COOEE Indigenous Family and Community Education Centre, and our partners Queensland Nurses and Midwives Union, who were joint winners in the Business Category for their First Nations Branch.

Reconciliation Australia’s theme for 2021 is 'More than a word'. Reconciliation takes action, urges the reconciliation movement towards braver and more impactful action.

Reconciliation is a journey for all Australians – as individuals, families, communities, organisations and importantly as a nation. At the heart of this journey are relationships between the broader Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
